I'm sure you will get a lot of opinions on this question here. But the bottom line is "what risk are you willing to take, vs the consequences for taking that risk"?

Only you can answer that question.

true and thanks for the reminder. i live in an area that is isolated and i think i would have some time to secure something if the case would need it. basically only when most laws were susspended anyway and mayhem prevailed.

As far as I know: I don't think there are any laws against being in possession of ammunition of firearms parts kits even for felons. Parole: yes, certainly, same for probation, but I don't think there's a law against it for just out of the system felons.

I would also look in to expungment.

So: AK parts kit/receiver flat/shop press/flat die/riveting tools/a couple thousand of rounds of ammo would be a good idea IMHO.

Pistols are generally prohibitively difficult to manufacture a receiver(frame) for, so I would give a close relative/friend a gift certificate for a gun store, recommend a gun, and ask them to buy it now, and give it to you as a gift when you get your record expunged.(if they don't have their own, give them enough to buy themselves something) If TSHTF, they'll know that they should never break the law, even under such circumstances.

All of the above is borderline legal/illegal. Double check the laws on the issues, take some Kali/eskrima/knife fighting classes in the mean time, and keep it all hush even if your research says you're in the right.

You're one of "them" in the eyes of law enforcement, more so than a normal civilian, making you being careful to follow the letter of the law a "loophole" in their eyes.

If you research concludes the above advice would find you in violation of the law, please disregard it, because as important as our lives are to each of us: the law is more important than self preservation.
